Oh Hae-ran , Choi Hye-jin , and Shin Ji-eun were listed at the top on the first day of the CPKC Women's Open (total prize money of $2.6 million) on the LPGA Tour.
Yoo Hae-ran and Choi Hye-jin, who are trying to win their first championship of the year, recorded three birdies and one bogey in the first round of the competition, which began at the Earl Grey Golf Club (par 72, 6,856 yards) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Wednesday (Korea time). Shin had four birdies and two bogeys.
The three players tied for sixth, two shots behind Lauren Coughlin of the U.S., who took the lone lead with a 4-under 68 at 2-under 70.
On this day, the players teed off at different times in the 1st and 11th holes.
Yoo, who competed with world No. 2 Lilia Boo (U.S.) and Canada's Brooke Henderson, recorded her first birdie at the 15th hole (par 5), and then added a birdie at the 17th hole (par 3). Yoo, who played par through the 6th hole, exchanged bogeys at the 7th hole (par 4) and birdies at the 8th hole (par 4).
Yoo hit half of 14 fairway shots and 14 of 18 green shots, while the number of putts was also high at 31.
Choi Hye-jin, who is waiting for her first LPGA Tour victory, reduced her first score by two strokes with birdies at the 2nd hole (par 4) and the 8th hole (par 4) and recovered her bogey at the 11th hole (par 4) with birdies at the 17th hole (par 3).
Shin got off to a good start by birdieing at the first hole (par 5). After bogey and birdieing at the fifth and sixth holes (par 3) and (par 4), she rebounded by birdieing at the eighth hole (par 4). In the latter half, she experienced twists and turns at the 12th and 13th holes (par 4).
Choi Hye-jin and Shin Ji-eun recorded 10 of 14 fairway hits, 14 regulation greens and 30 putts.
