People in Phnom Penh, the host city of Nagaworld Casino Resort and the Cambodian capital, have been under a two-week nighttime curfew since April 1 as a measure against the further spread of COVID-19.
Nagarwold itself had already shut down operations for the first quarter after some workers tested positive for the disease.
Under a "subordinate decree" signed by Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen, public institutions and private companies must close from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day, except for gas stations, emergency services or other government-approved essential businesses, the Khmer Times newspaper reported.
Except in urgent cases, most travel is banned from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day during the curfew, or unless travelers work for essential services or businesses, the outlet further reported.
Cambodian government spokesperson Pai Panik noted that the lower statute's measures would only be implemented in areas deemed "high risk" by local health authorities. Under the measures, local authorities had the power to restrict or even prevent residents from leaving their homes, except for shopping for essentials for medical reasons or emergency work.
The Phnom Penh governor, k Threng, urged residents not to travel to other provinces amid a nighttime curfew order, the Phnom Penh Post reported on Monday. The outlet also cited the official's reference to all types of traditional games and gambling, which are at odds with social distancing measures, also banned.
Nagakov, which runs Nagarwold, Phnom Penh's only licensed casino property, said it recorded a "continued record recovery" in game volume during the first quarter until Feb. 20, when the casino complex was shut down after 11 employees tested positive for COVID-19.
To date, the company has not provided any information on the reopening of the casino complex.
