Rivers Casino & Resort Shenectady has some exciting news for poker lovers in the region this week. The event started on Tuesday, April 11, but runs through Sunday, April 23, with a total of 11 tournaments at the casino's event center and poker room.
The casino, located at 1 Rush Street in Shenectady, New York, expects the new poker event to turn into an annual event, attracting significant crowds. In addition, all events in the Electric City Poker Series are offered guaranteed prize money and a total of over $290,000 in guarantees, and the winner of each event will be awarded a trophy.
For example, poker room manager Elliot Jector said guests have long demanded such events and now the new tournament is the final piece of the puzzle. He added that casinos wanted to give them what they wanted and that the new event was designed for people with recreational hobbies rather than professional athletes.
The first event includes a $400 buy mystery bounce, a no-limit hold, and a $75,000 guarantee. Thursday, April 12, 2023 to Sunday, April 16, 2023. All participants will have a chance to earn up to $10,000 if they remove someone from the game on day 2. Meanwhile, the series' main event will be an event with a $800 buyout, no-limit hold and a $150,000 pool.
In addition, Mr. Jector said the tournament will be positive for casinos in many ways, as it will attract tremendous attention from both real estate and the community. It is expected to attract between 800 and 1,000 athletes. He added that casinos have seen people from all over the continent during the new poker tournament.
Finally, registration will be formed for all events in the reverse casino poker room, the property said. Meanwhile, registration for mystery bounce events and main events will begin on Tuesday, and registration will begin two hours before the event starts. Details of the series can be found on the casino's official website.
In addition to attracting huge crowds to the area, the Shenectadi Casino also has other ways to contribute to the local economy. One example of that is to provide safe and secure jobs. Last month, it held a job fair to fill about 50 seats. Some of the jobs available ranged from beverage, hospitality and marketing vacancies to security officers, dealers and casino supervisors.
Another way to contribute to local welfare is through regular donations. For Thanksgiving last year, the casino donated more than 300 turkeys to a local charity. Some of the charities were Bethesda House, Shenectady City Mission, Food Pantry for Capital Territory, Interfaith Partnership for Homelessness, Joseph House & Shelter in Shenectady, Safe Inc. in Shenectady, and Saint Joan Ark Senior Mill.
