The Los Angeles Dodgers are now turning their attention to the bullpen.
After bolstering their starting rotation and outfield, the Dodgers will focus on signing closer Josh Hader, The Athletic's Jim Bauden recently reported.
Hader is the biggest name reliever to hit the free agent market this offseason. He appeared in 61 games for the San Diego Padres last season, posting 85 strikeouts, 33 saves, and a 1.28 ERA.
Hader is reportedly looking for a contract that will surpass Edwin Diaz's.
Diaz re-signed with the New York Mets for five years and $120 million ahead of the 2023 season.
In other words, he's asking for more than $120 million.
"He's asking for more than Edwin Diaz," says Bauden. So it would be over $100 million for five years. No team has offered him that, at least not yet. But the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, and Dodgers are the teams that could be in contention."
The Yankees previously offered Yoshinobu Yamamoto a $300 million contract, so they could be in the market for Heider, while Texas could be looking to bolster its bullpen for the title defense after winning the World Series.
However, USA Today's Bob Nightingale added a 토토사이트 nuance that gives the Dodgers an advantage.
"If Hader is still on the market in a month and they can get him for less than the five-year, $100 million-plus deal he wants, they'll seize the opportunity and sign him," he wrote.
It will be interesting to see if the Dodgers keep their top closer.
