Macau casino operator Sands China Ltd, in partnership with Kakao Pay, one of the most popular mobile payment and digital wallet services in Korea, and Macau Pass SA, a cashless payment service provider, announced that it will "ease cross-border mobile payments" for Korean travelers visiting the company's properties.

"A massive promotional campaign has launched until Sept. 30 for Kakao Pay users visiting Macau," Sands China said in a press release Monday. "This coincides with the Chuseok festival in Korea, an annual holiday traveled by the majority of Koreans," it added.

First launched in 2014, Kakao Pay is widely used in Korea and is currently available in almost 50 countries, so you can pay with your smartphone.

The casino company said the cooperation "will help attract more visitors from this important source market [Korea]."

Sands China operates many Kotai resorts, including Venice Macao, Paris Macao, and London Macao (pictured). It also operates a casino hotel Sands Macao on the peninsula.

Macau's government specifies policy goals to encourage casino concessionaries to attract more customers from markets outside of China.

As part of the Macau government's new 10-year game licensing bidding process, bidders had to plan and commit to investment on a number of issues, including attracting more customers from abroad.

A statement Monday quoted Dean Zhao, senior vice president of e-commerce at Sands China, as saying, "Korea is one of the top inbound tourist destinations, and Venice Macao and Paris Macao have long been well received by Korean guests, who are also attracted to London Macao, our latest comprehensive resort."

He added, "This meaningful collaboration with Kakao Pay and Macau Pass is in line with our philosophy to continue to seek solutions that improve the customer experience, including using familiar technologies in the domestic market."

In a prepared statement, Kakao Pay CEO Shin Won-geun said that the cooperation with Sands China will help maintain the company's "competitiveness," as it allows users to conveniently use Kakao Pay payments and enjoy various benefits when traveling to Macau.

In Macau, the system will be supported by Macau Pass. In a public release, the company's chairman and CEO, Sun Ho, was quoted as saying that this kind of cooperation "helps Macau create a connected international digital payment ecosystem by addressing cross-border payments for international tourists, and thus helps companies find new marketing growth opportunities."
