There are a lot of people who didn't play in the past few months are coming back in to WOTLK Gold play and check it out and take part in it. They're so enthralled about it. And the community is just so kind in the sense of being there for one another and knowing that things are going to be a little more difficult. Perhaps there are some flaws you'll never have to deal with on Modern WoW, but that's part of the fun and their appeal.

"I'm most grateful to the community, the players. We didn't know at the time of WoW Classic how popular it would be in the end." -John Hightt. John Hight

Brian Birmingham: Actually, I had conversations with a few players who said they were very gracious in Classic and partly as an almost penance for being friendly 15 years ago. Wanted an opportunity to make an entirely new relationWarcraft with a more positive attitude. Everyone's a bit more grown up and sensible in their views.

The response to The Burning Crusade was near-unanimous praise. As your first expansion to WoW How did you feel in the moment, and what impact did these glowing reviews have on your development processes and ambitions afterwards?

Brian Birmingham: Oh my God. I remember that it was an enormous lift. I was still a relatively new employee in the early days and I still remember the time I went to the signing at night. We would have these midnight signings in which we would be out signing people's collectors editions, and regular boxes while they be waiting in line at midnight to buy the boxes. It was so thrilling to experience that, hearing the stories from the first developers about long lines that were circling the building. We actually had them at multiple locations. It was exciting to see fans turn out cheap WOW WOTLK Classic Gold and really party with us.
