Developer Epic Games just announced fortnite materials would be taking down servers to investigate matchmaking and login problems that had been cropping up within the course of the evening. It's a big drawback for a day that was going pretty well for Epic Games, even though some server problems over at PlayStation Network have been giving PS4 users some issues. It doesn't seem to be a great day on the technical side of things entire.
Fortnite has had some intermittent technical problems lately, most especially some matchmaking issues that resulted in the programmer to postpone the much-anticipated Playground mode for weekly. But it's been some time as it saw prolonged unplanned downtime, and so we hope that that isn't what we are looking at here.

Last extended downtime was caused by errors that caused a crippling number of database queries, and Epic went into some fairly intense detail explaining exactly what was going on. The business has a custom of a certain amount of transparency, so expect lots of upgrades if this goes on much longer.
