Serum and plasma are two distinct matrices separated from blood after phlebotomy. Serum is prepared from whole blood following a clotting process. Because of the differences in the preparation of the two blood matrices, lipid levels are expected to differ between plasma and serum, but both are excelente matrices. Serum untargeted lipidomics will not only provide insights into the specific functions of lipid species in health and disease, but will also identify potential biomarkers for establishing preventive or therapeutic programs for human diseases. Here are some researches.
