Decided to get rid of the old wallpaper and give preference to painted walls. I would like to try painting myself. Any tips?

If you haven't forgotten anything, the sequence of actions is as follows: priming, installing beacons, plastering (if necessary for two times), repriming. If the walls are very uneven, you can cover them with plasterboard.

To paint walls after wallpaper, they need to be properly prepared - made perfectly flat and moderately absorbent. Too porous surface means a high consumption of paint. Of course the first time on their own and may not work, but I advise you to read

here pretty accessible description of the steps, I think you will be useful.
