Earlier this week, players noticed an unskippable advert for your Oculus Quest 2 before an in-game videogame. That ad appeared to operate during a loading screen, but has been the same length even if running with an SSD on a PC (through Stevivor). Players criticised 2K for the advert, with many noting it was looking in a full-priced title.
In reaction, 2K educated players who adverts"have been integrated into 2KTV segments" for a couple of decades, but stated that"yesterday's 2KTV ad placement impacted our players' expertise in ways we did not intend, as these ads are not meant to operate as part of their pre-game introduction." Because of this, the problem"will be fixed in future episodes," although there is no word on exactly when the change will be put into place. Crucially, it doesn't sound as though the ads will actually be going away. 2K points out they've been set up for a little while already, and that the problem here seems to be where the ad showed up, not the simple fact that it had been there in the first place. Hopefully the placements will be subtle later on, but it appears that in-game ads are set to be part of the NBA 2K matches for a while yet.
