EXE files are Windows executable files. Unfortunately, Macs can't run them right out of the box, which may be a problem for programs, like games and business applications, that haven't any Mac version. But, if you've got a Mac with an Intel-based processor with OS X Leopard or later, Apple has graciously provided you with a little utility called boot camp to do just that.
Boot Camp will help you set up a separate section of your hard drive which will allow you to install Windows on your computer as if your Mac was a PC. Since you'll be installing a real copy of Windows directly on to your Mac hardware, anything which will run in Windows will run on your Mac.
These two methods are a little lengthy and complicated therefore all the steps must be followed properly and carefully for How to Run EXE on Mac.
Step 1. Run EXE on Macbook using WINE software
One of the popular methods to run exe files on your Mac is to put in WINE software which can be downloaded for free. Follow these steps to use WINE to run Exe files on your Mac.
. the first step is to download the WINE software from its official website wine bottler.
. go to wine bottler website – http://winebottler.kronenberg.org/
. Now on its website, you'll see the option of wine bottler 1.8 rc4 development within the middle of the page with a green arrow pointing downwards.
. Now a pop up will appear asking for your permission to download the said program. Click on download and continue.
. Now you'll be taken to the advertising screen. you'll skip that ad by clicking on the skip ad on the top right corner of your screen. If the skip adoption is not there then wait for a while tell it appears
. After skipping add your download will begin.
. If download doesn’t begin in a while then click again on winbottler 1.8 rc4 development option to retry.
. Install the software. For that double click on the wine bottler file.
. then press on icons of both wine bottles and wine and drag them into the appliance folder.
. Now look an exe file and right-click on it to open the drop-down menu.
. within the drop-down menu, you'll see the option of open with click on that.
. Now another popup menu will appear where you'll see wine with its icon.
. Click on that wine to open your wine files.
. Now another menu will ask to run directly. make sure run direct option is clicked on if not then press on the circle adjacent to it.
. After then press continues that menu and you're done.
2. Open EXE Files on Macbook using boot camp
Now the running exe files on your Mac are using Bootcamp. Follow the below steps carefully to implement this method for making sure exe files open on your Mac.
. the first step is to download ISO file from microsoft.com
. Once ISO file is downloaded then look for utilities within the top right corner of your Mac screen by clicking on the magnifying glass icon.
. Now click and open the Utility folder.
. Under the utility folder, you'll see boot camp assistant Icon double click on that.
. Now an introduction menu will appear please still proceed further.
. Now the method of fixing your boot camp settings will begin.
. Once the above process is complete, wait for your Mac to reboot.
. On rebooting your Mac will ask to select the system to open your computer with.
. Click on Bootcamp Windows before starting your system.
. Now instruction regarding Windows setup will appear. Click on accept to continue and install the windows setup.
. After doing that your Mac will load into the Windows OS.
. Now find your exe files and double click on it.
. Since you're using Windows OS your exe files will now open and run smoothly.
