This is ridiculous. You would think BT would do something to resolve this by now... I have had an issue for 2 weeks with emails not sending via outlook. Unfortunately, I had just started using a VPN and thought my problem was associated with the VPN.
This was not the case!
After spending so much time on BT's website and a few hours onto BT help I was told it was a problem with Microsoft and that I needed to contact them.
I knew this was not the case because I have other email accounts and all of them were absolutely fine (apart from BT).
Anyway, I eventually found out that the best thing to do was to delete the account and start again.
I set it up again by adding a new account.
I selected manual setup or additional server types
Choose POP or IMAP then next
enter your details
choose an IMAP account type
Incoming and outgoing servers should be mail.btinternet.com
Click more settings
Click Outgoing Server Tab and select "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and then select "Use the same settings as my incoming mail server"
Click the advanced tab and have the incoming server (IMAP) 993 under "use the following type of encryption connection" select SSL
Outgoing server (SMTP) 587 under "use the following type of encryption connection" select none
I am not a techie and whether this set-up is correct or not I found it was the only thing that worked for me...
BT get your act together and train you to support guys better. They should be aware of this particularly if I found it freely available on the net.....
I hope this might help someone else having to spend so much time trying to resolve BT outlook email issues.
