As more organizations undergo mergers, acquisitions, or internal restructuring, tenant-to-tenant (T2T) migrations within Microsoft 365 have become increasingly common. However, the lack of a centralized, Microsoft-native tool for seamless T2T migration poses challenges for IT admins and businesses alike.
Currently, migrating mailboxes, OneDrive data, SharePoint sites, and Teams configurations requires either manual effort or reliance on third-party tools. This not only increases cost but also the risk of data loss or downtime. Having a built-in migration utility with granular controls, user mapping, and status tracking would make transitions between tenants more secure and efficient.
We worked with Apps4Rent during a recent Microsoft 365 tenant migration, and their support was excellent. Still, native migration capabilities from Microsoft would empower organizations to handle simpler migrations internally without advanced technical resources.
This is especially important for managed service providers and growing enterprises that need to maintain continuity during organizational changes. Hoping to see Microsoft prioritize this functionality in future updates.
