Saskatchewan's regulated online sector has just opened recently, but it has already accumulated serious betting sizes, Saskatchewan's Indian gaming authority has been informed. A latest report from the regulator confirmed that online platform PlayNow raised more than C$31.8 million from its online betting handle during the first two months of November and December 2022.
Not long ago, SIGA was granted exclusive rights to create and regulate the first legitimate website in Saskatchewan offering online gambling and single event sports betting. For this initiative, the regulator has selected British Columbia Lottery as the platform's provider. This prompted Playnow to begin in early November 2022.
SIGA confirmed in its report that online betting volume reached C$14.8 million in November 2022, while processing volume surged to C$17 million in December 2022. There were 8,015 registered users on the website at the time. This means that the platform has processed an average bet of C$3,967 over the first two months for all registered accounts as of December 31, 2022.
Michael Bellegarde, director of iGaming at SIGA, explained that the total betting amount includes re-bets, promotions, bonuses and free credit from the website. By eliminating this number, the platform received an average of about C$460 in deposits in the first two months for each registered betting company before the end of 2022.
For the first two months, the platform reported net income of CA$1.6 million, with CA$30.6 million of the total bets of CA$31.8 million coming from iGaming, while sports betting was only CA$1.2 million. Mr. Belegard explained that he was surprised to see poor sports betting activity, which accounted for less than 5% of the state's net profit.
SIGA also said its average sports betting for the first two months was C$30. Also, 47% of all sports bets were live bets or less, and were made during the game. The highest net wins were NFL, football, tennis and basketball bets. Meanwhile, hockey had the highest bets, followed by the NFL, basketball and football.
On player health, Belegard said SIGA had player protection in mind, and explained that he chose BCLC to launch the platform because it was an innovator in safe gambling in North America. He acknowledged not only the deposit limit, but also the built-in technology to detect potential problem gamblers, and finally the live chat with advisers.
In January, BCLC announced that it would release a live dealer game on the Saskatchewan platform. Playnow currently offers players 17 digital table games. Some of the available titles include the industry's top-selling titles. These include Auto Roulette, Blackjack, Baccarat, Baccarat, Dream Wheeler, Infinite Blackjack, Lightning Auto Roulette Ultimate Texas Hold 'M.
