It was Heaven for Earth for me, even in '87 when I joined (I didn't realize at that time, but my Ph.D. would take another year and a half to finish...).
Said as much to everyone.
Great colleagues, all the freedom in the world to work on good ideas (I got to work on logic, constraints, concurrency, programming languages,
model-based reasoning, syntax/semantics interface for natural languages, ...), great working environment, managers.
Couldn't figure out why anyone would ever leave.  But then, of course,
I grew up, and a time comes when you need to leave home and venture into the world...for me, that meant returning to the east coast in '96 to work on network communities at AT&T Research.
