At the upcoming International ICE Total Gaming event, a panel discussion is in place to address one of the industry's most important issues in 2018. The role data and technology play in identifying problematic gamblers and ensuring operators comply with gambling committees to manage risks.

The recent announcement of a three-year strategy widely seen as a crackdown on the industry by the Gambling Commission is set to bring a slew of regulatory changes to game operators. As a result, a special panel discussion will take place at ICE Total Gaming 2018, an industry-leading event held at Excel in London. We will look at how emerging and dynamic customer and identity data combine with more traditional data and technologies to identify problematic behaviors and enable responsible gambling.

Peter Murray, ID Data Intelligence Expert, Head of Gaming at GBG and Chair of Panel Discussions, said: "Responsible gambling is at the top of the committee's agenda for the foreseeable future. It is critical that operators have full visibility and understanding of the tools available and how they can be combined to support new and evolving compliance.

"One aspect of the industry that I think is most important is that stakeholders don't want to or can't share customer data. That's going to be the most important part of the minds of businesses and I'm looking forward to putting that on the panel that day.

"Almost all regulated industries share data to ensure compliance and protect customers, but we don't noticeably have it. We need to use new laws, such as self-exclusion schemes, as an opportunity to explore and define the benefits of customer data sharing."

The launch of GAMSTOP, scheduled for spring 2018, will be a first step for operators sharing data to meet the licensing conditions and practices of the Gambling Commission.

Peter added: "Industrial regulation is designed to tell us what we can and cannot do, but it's not always clear what we need to do, especially with responsible gambling that is open to interpretation. We hope that using identity and "know customer" data will help operators navigate regulatory changes, as it plays a key role in maintaining compliance."
