Suwon FC head coach Kim Eun-joong was unconcerned about the table as his side leapfrogged the leaders Pohang Steelers with a win.

Suwon won 1-0 at home against Pohang Steelers in the 13th round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at the Suwon Sports Complex on Monday, thanks to Jung Seung-won's goal in the second minute of the second half.

Kim's mercenary skills shone through. Kim substituted Lee Seung-woo and Jung Seung-won at the start of the second half, and after a two-on-one with Lee, Andersson played a cutback pass in front of the goal that Jung Seung-won finished to secure the win.

With the win, Suwon increased its points tally to 21 (6W2D4L) and leapfrogged into fourth place, while also securing back-to-back victories over leaders Pohang at home, following a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Jeonbuk Hyundai in Round 12.

At the post-match press conference, Kim said, “I think the players did well to win the game with the support of the home fans. I'm always grateful to them,” and expressed his gratitude to the fans.

“The players prepared for the game against Pohang, which is also the No. 1 team and has a good offense and defense balance, and I think the part of the preparation that was well executed brought good results. I also want to thank the players,” he said, expressing his gratitude to them.

“We controlled the game well in the first half as we intended, and in the second half, we had some game-changers who knew their purpose and created good 토토 scoring chances,” he said, adding, “Jung Seung-won came on and scored calmly, which was the plan we prepared and it worked well.”

“No matter what position he plays, he tries his best,” Kim said of Jung Seung-won, who scored the winning goal. “Today, he was playing more as a right wing forward than his main position, but he did his best and scored. I'm grateful for the players who go out there and do their best,” he said.

The win moved Suwon up to fourth place, but Kim isn't too concerned with the leaderboard. “We don't really look at the leaderboard,” he said. Like we say every game, we're trying to win every game, we're analyzing our opponents and preparing for them, and we're doing our best in each game,” Kim said.

“I don't think the rankings are important. I think it depends on our physical condition as we prepare for each game,” he said, adding, ‘We will recover well and prepare for the next game.’

Suwon, who are in good spirits after coming from behind to win 3-2 against Jeonbuk Hyundai and catching leaders Pohang, will travel to Jeju United for their 14th round match on the 26th.

Speaking about the current team morale, Kim said, “We were last, but Jeonbuk was a tough game. I don't think the standings are meaningless right now,” he said, emphasizing that ‘Suwon had a tough time last year, and they were in the relegation zone, so we need to focus on every game.’

“I know that beating the No. 1 team gives us extra points, but I admire the players for overcoming everything,” he said. “Our next game is against Jeju, and even though we are down in the standings, they are not an easy opponent, so we want to prepare well and bring home a good result.”
