Park Ji-won (28, Seoul City Hall) took second place in the men's 1500m in the first round of short track national team selection.
Park Ji-won lost first place to Kim Geon-woo (26, Sports Toto) in the men's 1,500m on the first day of the 2024-2025 short track national team first round selection competition held at the indoor ice rink in Mok-dong, Seoul on the 5th. Park Ji-won, who was leading until three and a half laps remained, fought for position with Lee Jeong-soo (35, Seoul City Hall), who was fighting for the lead, and was momentarily pushed to the outside of the corner, allowing Kim Geon-woo to overtake the in-course. In the end, he fell behind Kim Geon-woo by 0.164 seconds.
Park Ji-won, who took first place in the men's division at the International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track World Cup for the past two consecutive seasons (2022-2024), was automatically selected to the national team as a gold medalist in the 1000m and 1500m at the World Championships last year. If he is the top Korean player in the overall ranking of the individual competition at the previous World Championships and wins a gold medal, he will be automatically selected to the national team without having to participate in the selection competition. 1st to 8th places in each event in the qualifying round receive 34, 21, 13, 8, 5, 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively.
