Excessive transfer fee spending Reasons for exceeding the club loss limit

Nottingham Forest of the English Professional Football Premier League (EPL), the original team of Hwang Ui-jo (Alanyaspor), received a points deduction and fell into the relegation zone.

The EPL Secretariat announced on the official website on the 19th (Korean time), “The EPL Independent Committee has deducted 4 points from Nottingham for violating the Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR).”

According to multiple local media, Nottingham has spent 250 million pounds (about 425.4 billion won) in transfer fees since being promoted to the EPL two years ago. This includes the recruitment of Hwang Ui-jo.

EPL clubs must not exceed 105 million pounds (about 178.7 billion won) in losses over the past three years, but Nottingham was penalized with a points deduction because the losses exceeded the PSR standard.

With this punishment, Nottingham, which had 25 points with 6 wins, 7 draws, and 16 losses in the 2023-2024 EPL, now has 21 points.

As the points decreased, the ranking fell to 18th place, which is in the relegation zone. In the EPL, the bottom three clubs, from 18th to 20th among the 20 clubs, are relegated to the second division, the English Professional Football Championship.

Nottingham is said to be planning to appeal the ruling. Everton, who had been subject to a 10-point deduction for the same charge before Nottingham, had their punishment eased by a 6-point deduction after an appeal. 19가이드03
