Parents have filed a complaint against former star basketball player Hyun Joo-yup, who is also active in broadcasting.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 14th, a complaint was received at the Public Interest Reporting Center of the Board of Audit and Inspection on the 27th of last month that coach Hyun did not attend training and practice games due to filming of the broadcast. The education office said, "We are conducting our own investigation by asking the school to check the facts."

The complaint was reportedly filed by parents of Whimoon High School's basketball team. The parents claim that Hyun, who took the post in November last year, is often absent from training and practice games due to broadcasting and other reasons. He also added that Hyun appointed a high school senior as an assistant coach and effectively took over the training.

Parents are said to have raised suspicions that Hyun tried to intervene in the basketball team of Whimoon Middle School, where his two sons belong, in addition to neglecting his duties as a leader.

The Office of Education said it will review the results of the school's investigation and consider whether to implement special scholarships.

Hyun started his professional career with SK in 1998 after attending Whimoon High School and Korea  University. He later went to Gold Bank, KTF (now KT), and played for Changwon LG until 2009, before retiring. Afterwards, he played for LG for three years from 2017. He is also active in entertainment programs.
