Volleyball player Lee Da-young again made remarks that seemed to target senior Kim Yeon-kyung on the news that volleyball player Oh Ji-young was severely punished for bullying his juniors.
On the 27th, Lee Da-young wrote on her Instagram account, "Four years ago when bullying at work was even worse," along with a photo capturing a report that Oh Ji-young had been given a "one-year suspension" for bullying her teammate. In an Instagram story, Lee said, "One year of suspension for antisocial activities such as abusive language. Then, what punishment should be given to the player who constantly bullied his fellow junior into making extreme choices?"
Since August last year, Lee Da-young has been writing posts that seem to be shooting at Kim Yeon-koung. She has been posting messages on social networking sites that she exchanged with Kim Yeon-koung, claiming that she is a "sexual harassment, bullying at work, bullying, and abusing her power." Lee revealed that "Kim Yeon-koung treated me like a woman at a bar," and wrote a post on social media strongly implying that there was sexual harassment in the past, such as sharing a manual on the prevention and response of sexual violence at work. She also posted a picture of herself with Kim Yeon-koung along with the post.
Kim has been responding to the criticism. As if to provoke her, however, Lee has repeatedly claimed that she is a victim by posting harsh criticisms such as "Even if you wrap it up well, the truth will come out someday" and "Why are you still silent?" She has also hinted at taking action, saying the last step is the Korea Sports Council Sports Ethics Center and the National Human Rights Commission in her hashtag (#).
Meanwhile, the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO) on Friday suspended O Ji-young, 35, a female professional volleyball club who is suspected of bullying her juniors, for one year. In response to KOVO's decision, her team Pepper Savings Bank has decided to terminate O Ji-young's contract.
Earlier, KOVO received a report from an anonymous reporter that Oh Ji-young bullied another player within the club. "Since June last year, Oh Ji-young has been found to have bullied her junior, and two juniors have left the team," KOVO's reward and punishment committee said. "We have confirmed through various evidences that Oh Ji-young's human rights violations, such as bullying and verbal abuse." Although Oh Ji-young did not directly assault her junior or set up a meeting to make fun of her, KOVO's reward and punishment committee considered Oh Ji-young's words during training or on social media as a "serious issue" by defining her as abusive language.
The retrial will be possible within 10 days. "Our calling has not been fully reflected. There are additional materials that can be submitted," Oh Ji-young said. "We will request a retrial."
