2nd place by 0.1 second in 800m relay Hwang Seon-woo, ranked 1st in section record among 32 people, Korea, most medals, including the first 2 gold medals, 5. Following last year's AG 2nd place, the 'team' with the best record ever is also competitive. olympic green light

Korea's Jaehoon Yang, Woomin Kim, Sunwoo Hwang, and Hojun Lee (from left) are holding a medal ceremony after winning a silver medal in the men's 800m relay final at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships held in Doha, Qatar, on the 17th.

Korean swimming won a team medal for the first time in the history of the World Championships. Winning a medal in a team event of four people rather than an individual race means that the competitiveness of Korean swimming has increased. The first medal in the team event at the World Championships also brightened the prospects for the Paris Olympics. Korea, which won two gold medals and one silver medal in management alone, added two bronze medals in diving and finished the competition with its best score ever. Management performance is also at an all-time high.

The Korean men's 800m relay team, consisting of Hwang Sun-woo (21), Kim Woo-min, Lee Ho-jun (23), and Yang Jae-hoon (26), took second place with a time of 7 minutes, 1.94 seconds in the finals of this event at the 2024 World Aquatics Championships held in Doha, Qatar, on the 17th. China was the first to use the touchpad (7 minutes, 1.84 seconds), 0.1 second behind. The United States came in third place with a time of 7 minutes and 2.08 seconds.

On this day, Korea's last English student, Hwang Seon-woo, ranked third after the United States and China. It was 5.8m behind the United States, which was first at the time, and about 3.5m behind China, which was second. Hwang Seon-woo gradually narrowed the distance, but even at the 750m point, he was about 2m behind the two countries. After the match, Hwang Seon-woo said, “I was worried whether I would be able to catch up with the Chinese and American players because they were about a height ahead of me until the 750m mark, but my spurt went well in the last 50m.” On this day, Hwang Seon-woo's 200m time was 1 minute 43.76 seconds, the best among the 32 athletes from 8 countries who made it to the finals. It was faster than his 200m personal best record (1 minute 44.40 seconds). In relay events, only the first swimmer is recognized as an official personal record.

The Korea Swimming Federation has designated the men's 800m relay as a 'strategic development event' in 2021. And starting the following year, the first to fourth ranked athletes in the 200m freestyle national team selection were sent every year to Australia, a powerful swimming nation, to receive training from world-class leader Ian Pope and others. When the Swimming Federation designated the 800m relay as a ‘strategic training event,’ the goal it set was a gold medal at the Asian Games and medals at the World Championships and the Olympics.

Korean swimming achieved its goals for the Asian Games and World Championships. The four people who competed in the final race on this day are members who teamed up to win gold medals in the same event at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year. They are called the golden generation and are leading the renaissance of Korean swimming. Korean swimming won six gold medals at last year's Asian Games, surpassing Japan for the first time in history.

All that remains now is the Olympics. After the race that day, Hwang Seon-woo said, “It is unfortunate that we finished second by 0.1 seconds behind China, but I think there is a section where we can further reduce the record. He expressed confidence, saying, “I will perform better at the Paris Olympics, which is five months away.” Kim Woo-min, who was the second English student, also said, “This time we lost first place to China, but today’s regret makes us set a new goal. “I want to achieve good results at the Olympics,” he said.

Korea achieved its highest ever performance in this competition with two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. ‘Marine Boy’ Park Tae-hwan (35) surpassed the 2007 Melbourne Games, where he won one gold (400m freestyle) and one bronze medal (200m freestyle) by himself. This is the first time that Korean swimming has won two gold medals at the World Championships. Kim Woo-min won gold in the 400m freestyle, and Hwang Sun-woo won gold in the 200m freestyle. Hwang Sun-woo, who reached the podium in three consecutive competitions, increased his total World Championship medals to four (1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze), setting a new record for the most by a Korean athlete in this category. Park Tae-hwan (2 gold medals, 1 bronze medal) and diving Kim Su-ji (3 bronze medals) won three medals together.

Last year, the Swimming Federation gave athletes in sports other than freestyle the opportunity to train in Australia. Lee Joo-ho (29), who went to Australia for training in June last year, became the first Korean athlete to reach the finals of the men's 200m backstroke event and placed 5th.  스포츠토토
