The World Cup men's and women's overall championships Park Ji-won’s 2nd consecutive loss

Park Ji-won (28, Seoul City Hall) of the short track team.

Park Ji-won (28, Seoul City Hall) and Kim Gil-li (20, Seongnam City Hall) of the track team team won the men's and women's overall championship at the 2023-24 International Skating Union (ISU) World Cup.

Ji-won Park was the first to cross the finish line with a time of 1 minute 28.193 seconds in the men's 1000m final of the 6th competition of the 2023-24 ISU World Cup held in Gdansk, Poland on the 18th (Korean time).

Park Ji-won, who was slightly ahead of Stephen DuBois (Canada, 902 points) with a cumulative season point score of 971 before today's game, added 100 points by winning the 1000m and confirmed the overall win with a cumulative 1071 points.

In the men's 500m second race that followed, Dubois won and added 150 points, but was 19 points short of Park Ji-won with 1,052 points.

With this, Park Ji-won won the overall World Cup title for the second consecutive season following last season.

Since last season, the ISU has been awarding a trophy named 'Crystal Glove' to the overall winner by adding up individual event scores from the 1st to 6th World Cup competitions.

Ji-won Park became the inaugural champion last season and maintained her top spot in the men's division for two consecutive seasons.

In the finals, there were only three Korean players, including Park Ji-won, Kim Geon-woo (Sports Toto), and Jang Seong-woo (Korea University), and Park Ji-won took the first place from the beginning.

Although Kim Geon-woo pursued persistently until the end, Park Ji-won did not let go of the lead and finished the race in first place. Park Ji-won raised both hands and expressed joy.

Kim Geon-woo won the silver medal with a time of 1 minute 28.304 seconds, and Jang Seong-woo took fourth place after Kosei Hayashi (Japan).

Kim Gil-li

Kim Gil-li in the women's division also won the overall championship. Gilly Kim took second place in the women's 1000m final with a time of 1:33.037, following Kristin Santos-Griswold (USA, 1:32.944).

Kim Gil-li, who had accumulated 1,131 points for the season before today's game, added 80 points and scored 1,211 points, beating Santos-Griswold (1,180 points) by 31 points.

Kim Gil-li, who had a smooth debut by placing 4th overall at the 2022-23 World Cup, which was her senior debut season, established herself as the new ace of the women's national team by winning the overall title this season.

Gilly Kim passed the quarterfinals and semifinals held on this day with ease and advanced to the finals. Gilly Kim, who made it to the finals with Santos-Griswold, was only disqualified, and if she crossed the finish line, she could be confirmed as the overall winner.

She was in third place until midway through the race, but Gilly Kim moved up to second when Hannah Desmert (Belgium), who was running ahead of her, fell. Afterwards, with one lap left, she did not overtake Santos-Griswold, who was in first place, and came in safely, confirming the 'Crystal Glove'.

Park Ji-yoon (Seoul City Hall), who made it to the finals along with Kim Gil-li, finished in 4th place. 온라인섯다
