The International Game Standards Association (IGSA), a specialized technical adviser on electronic gaming machinery technology and digital infrastructure for casino and betting industries, has announced the creation of the Cyber Resilience Commission.
The organization said in a press release Thursday that it aims to "create standards for cyber risk management, cybersecurity governance and framework control for casino operators and their ecosystems."
According to the update, the Commission will be supported by Arboriat Technologies Inc., Light & Wonder Inc., and AXES.ai .
The announcement quoted Earle Hall, chairman of IGSA and CEO of AXES.ai , as saying: "It is very encouraging to see IGSA Platinum and Gold members quickly come together to address the alarming rate of increase in cybersecurity issues in our industry."
He added, "Our members clearly know that cybersecurity should be a top priority for all game providers in our industry to protect operators and our industry as a whole."
According to the announcement, Mr. Hall will serve as interim chairman of the committee.
In prepared remarks, IGSA President Peter DeRaedt said the organisation would lead a "joint effort to create cyber standards" to protect the gaming industry.
"This committee will call on experts within the Member States to create ready-to-use standards to improve cyber resilience," Mr. DeRaedt added.
MGM Resorts International, parent of Macau casino operator MGM China Holdings Ltd, and Caesars Entertainment recently reported a cybersecurity breach that prompted the closure of some casino and hotel computer systems in their U.S. operations.
Some game vendors have also been targeted by cyberattacks. In August, Australia-listed Arcoleat Leisure Ltd said it experienced a cyber accident around June 1, in which some data, including information from its employees, was stolen.
In November, TransAct Technologies Inc., a provider of slot machine printers and casino player management software, said it had discovered a "criminal cybersecurity incident" affecting its operational and information technology systems.
