This week, Gateway Casino & Entertainment gave Kenora, Ontario, an update on its C$21 million casino project. The gaming giant shared that it is currently focusing on operating facilities across the country and has no plans to start building millions of casinos on 9th Avenue North in Kenora at this time.
Prior to the unprecedented situation in March 2020, the Kenora project had a provisional completion date for Q1 2022. The project was approved shortly before 2012, when it was approved by Kenora City Council members, and later passed a local review in 2019. However, the development has become much more complicated due to the virus.
Most recently, Rob Mitchell, head of communications and public relations at gaming industry leader, revealed that the company has no current plans to begin building a C$21 million property in Kenora. He said the company is now focused on increasing revenue and getting employees back to work, similar to what other businesses are trying to do.
The spokesperson noted that, like many other businesses in the hospitality industry, the company's activities have been suspended for most of the past few years. In other words, despite the reopening, all of the company's gaming facilities have had to operate on a limited basis and it has affected their performance, making it difficult for the company to recover.
On the subject of the company's Kenora project, Mr. Mitchell said the company was taking a cautious, optimistic approach to the future, although he did not share much. He explained that the company is taking small steps, and will evaluate it when the situation stabilizes. Explaining that the times are uncertain, the CEO said he could not predict what would happen next.
He added that the company's current goal is to ease people's anxiety and anxiety when they return to work. This is a persistent problem for many in the hospitality industry. However, he said he would be happy to see a full house in Kenora one day if the project progressed. But for now, they are focused on business recovery and things seem to be getting better.
Most recently, Gateway Casino & Entertainment launched its 11th gaming property in Ontario, opening a new property in the North Bay. The Canadian$41 million gaming facility previously held a soft open on March 9, 2022, before officially starting work on March 11, 2022. The company thanked the company for its support in developing a 39,000-square-foot casino on Pinewood Park Drive.
