Medal for 2 consecutive years, 18 years after Yuna Kim

Shin Ji-ah (Yeongdong Middle School), the next generation figure skating women's singles figure skater, won a silver medal at the International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix Final for the second year in a row.

It's been 18 years since 'figure queen' Yuna Kim that a Korean athlete has won a medal at the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final for the second year in a row.

Shin Ji-ah received 131.67 points, including 68.18 technical scores (TES) and 63.49 artistic scores (PCS), in the women's single free skating at the 2023-2024 ISU Figure Junior Grand Prix held in Beijing, China on the 8th.

Shin Ji-ah, who took first place in the short program with 69.08 points, received a total score of 200.75 points including the free skating score. She allowed her comeback win to Mao Shimada (Japan), who received 206.33 points, and was satisfied with her silver medal.

Shimada, who was second in the short program with 68.27 points, took the gold medal by adding 138.06 points in the free skating with TES of 75.12 and PCS of 62.94.

Unfortunately, she did not win the championship, but Ji-ah Shin succeeded in winning a silver medal for the second year in a row, following the silver medal at last year's Junior Grand Prix Final.

It has been 18 years since Kim Yuna won a silver medal in 2004 and a gold medal in 2005 that she won a medal two years in a row.

The Junior Grand Prix Series is held seven times a season, and players can participate in up to two competitions. The Junior Grand Prix Final is a ‘king of kings’ where only the top 6 players participate based on the combined results of the two rounds.

Among the three Korean and three Japanese players participating in this year's Junior Grand Prix Final, 'twin national team member' Kim Yu-seong (Pyeongchon Middle School) took fourth place with 190.48 points, and Kwon Min-sol (Mokdong Middle School) took sixth place with 183.06 points.

Rena Uezono (Japan) won the bronze medal with 196.46 points. Ami Nakai (Japan) ranked 5th with 187.04 points.

Shin Ji-ah won gold medals in the 2nd and 5th Junior Grand Prix competitions this season, and added a silver medal in the final stage.

In the free skating, the difficulty of the jumps was mixed between Shin Ji-ah and Shimada. As Shimada included difficult jumps as a component, Shin Ji-ah was pushed out.

Shin Ji-ah and Shimada used the same triple flip-triple toe loop combination jump, double Axel, and triple Lutz in the short program.

But the free skating was different. Shimada performed not only the triple Axel, which is still considered difficult for female athletes, but also the quadruple toe loop.

Shin Jia was superior in PCS, but Shimada was significantly ahead in TES.

Ji-ah Shin performed her first task, the double axel, cleanly, but was judged to have performed a quarter landing (when the jump rotation was less than 90 degrees) in the subsequent triple loop, and her performance score (GOE) was deducted by 0.35 points.

Shin Ji-ah, who performed the triple Salchow and triple flip-double toe loop-double loop combination jumps without mistakes, performed the change foot combination spin at level 3, and the triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination jump placed in the second half of the performance, which was awarded 10% extra points. It was also digested stably.

In the subsequent triple flip-double axel sequence jump, attention (be careful with the edge) and quarter landing were judged simultaneously, but after stably executing the triple lutz, the flying camel spin (level 3), correo sequence, and flying change foot combination spin (level The performance ended with 4).

Shimada, on the other hand, performed cleanly on both the triple Axel and quadruple toe loop, which she placed as her first and second components. In particular, in the quadruple toe loop, she earned a GOE of 2.17 points.

Shimada, who was judged to be underrotated (when the rotation of the jump is less than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees) in the triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination jump, also had a quarter landing in the triple salchow-triple toe loop-double toe loop combination jump. It came out, and the triple loop was only done in one rotation.

However, she was able to pull off a comeback victory thanks to two difficult jumps.

After the game, Shin Ji-ah said through her management company All That Sports, “I feel good that I was able to receive good results this year as well as last year. I was very nervous ahead of the free skating, so I tried to focus on myself.” “He was able to achieve good results by focusing until the end,” he said. 스포츠토토맨
