Xavier Scruggs , who played for the NC Dinos in the KBO League, supported the San Diego Padres' decision.

On the 29th (Korean time), Scruggs left his thoughts on manager Mike Schilt through his

He, who was selected by the Cardinals in the 19th round of the 2008 draft and played with Schilt as a Cardinals player until 2015, said, “I know Schilt well not only as a coach, but also as a person,” and said that Schilt’s appointment as coach could be a ‘game changer.’ I cited three reasons.

The first was ‘incomparable wise coaching’.

Having played baseball for 32 years and worked with numerous coaches, he commented, “Playing under Coach Schilt was a completely different experience.”

He said, “It wasn’t simply a question of X or O. He showed himself as a typical baseball teacher and baseball student. His ability to understand not only strategy but also the individuality of each player and his attention to even the smallest details is incomparable. He said of Coach Schilt’s ability, “He has coaching skills that go beyond the field and shape players as a whole.”

The second was ‘sincerity shown in all aspects.’

Scruggs, who described Director Schilt’s commitment to integrity as a ‘game changer,’ said, “Faith is a big part of Schilt, but he is not a person who simply relies on faith. He instills a level of authenticity and sets a benchmark for those around him, such as coaches and players. “It’s not just a matter of baseball, it’s a matter of becoming a better person,” he continued.

“To have that kind of impact on the clubhouse is something that everyone dreams of,” Scruggs added.

Lastly, he cited ‘redefinition of leadership’ as the reason.

“Leadership is not just a title, it is a matter of trust,” Scruggs continued. “Schildt defines leadership by creating the ultimate level of trust within the team. Progress is not made through action. It is intentional and purposeful leadership. Don't try to make something look good or play politics. “His only mission is to make everyone around him better on and off the field,” he said, once again praising Schilt’s abilities.

Lastly, he urged fans to watch with anticipation by saying, “Padres fans, prepare for a new era led by a manager who works not simply for baseball but for the people.”

Schilt is a person who grew into a major league manager despite having no professional player experience.
He majored in business administration at the University of North Carolina at Asheville and played for the baseball team. After working as a college and high school coach, he worked in the major league scouting department from 1999 to 2003, forming a full-fledged relationship with the major league.

His relationship with the Cardinals team began in 2004 when he joined the team as a scout. As a minor league manager, he recorded a record of 471 wins and 432 losses, joined the major league coaching staff in 2017, and took over as interim manager following the dismissal of manager Mike Masini in August 2018.

He served as coach of the St. Louis Cardinals from 2018 to 2021, recording a record of 252 wins and 199 losses. In 2019, he was named National League Manager of the Year. In particular, in 2021, the team dramatically advanced to the wild card by recording 17 consecutive wins at the end of the season. At the time, one of the teams that was defeated in this process was San Diego.

After losing to the LA Dodgers in the 2021 Wild Card Game, he was suddenly fired as manager of St. Louis due to 'differences in philosophy with the club.' After working as an advisor to the Padres team for the past two years and accompanying the minor league and major league players, he once again took on the position of manager.
