During his visit to Surkhandarya province on March 13 this year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev set an important task of expanding stonefly plantations in desert areas. In order to achieve this task, it is planned to plant saxaul forests on an area of 1,500 hectares in the region. Saxaul forests play an important role in controlling dust and sandstorms, known as "afghans," which are common in the region. This plant can slow the movement of sand by 55% at age 3, 79.5% at age 5, and stop it completely at age 7. In addition, its roots are resistant to saline soils and desiccation, allowing it to fight sand even more effectively.
Planting and sowing of saxaul seedlings has begun in the "Kattakum" mountain range, located at the junction of the Termez and Angora districts.
