I think your best bet for finding a long-term solution is to venture into the cloud as most of the innovation in this space is happening there.
A cloud solution allows you to have the flexibility to run it on a mac or PC or any other connected device meaning you will not have to limit your choices to what works on whatever operating system you are using at the time.  Choosing a tool really comes down to what you want to accomplish.

If you are looking for a system to track your personal finances then a solution like Mint.com is the market leader and does the trick for most.
However, there are a number of other options emerging in the market that are trying to improve on what Mint has done.  There are a number of options described here:
With Mint acquired by Intuit and Wesabe and Rudder out of business, what are the best independent personal financial management sites still out there?

If you are looking for a solution that handles your business there are again a number of options.  Assuming that you want to stay away from full-scale accounting solutions like
Quickbooks Online and Xero.com your options come down to choosing a solution that provides income and expense tracking or double entry balanced financial statements.
