It makes sense to World of Warcraft to be the game that propels you into WOTLK Gold [that space] because it's a perfect combination. But , at the exact same time it doesn't fit with the identity people know Blizzard to be, and the brand that fans enjoy World of Warcraft as, and this is manifested in the negative reaction.
I think the thing that we did a poor job of when we first announced World of Warcraft : Immortal was contextualizing what the future holds and what we see as the future of mobile, specifically. In addition, the key thing that was lost, that we failed in double emphasizing, is we are a PC-based developer first. Then we search for alternative platforms we think are great and support the kinds of gaming experiences that are compatible with the type of games we want to play and values we'd like to spread into the world. An example is, there was a little reaction when we announced that we were going to convert World of Warcraft to console as well.
We ported it to both our Xbox and PlayStation platforms. The year before, we announced World of Warcraft for the Nintendo Switch. The reason why we did this is because we think that's a great game that can really work really effectively on these platforms.
If we think about what mobile could be in the future for Blizzard in the future and we are of the opinion that mobile should not be a lesser-quality experience. We believe that we are able to develop games with the quality of Blizzard. We believe that we could have Blizzard principles around monetization and we believe that it could be an enjoyable experience. Additionally, World of Warcraft : Immortal is a game has been in development for quite some time at this point and we're pleased that it's progressing. We're looking forward to having players play it when it's released.
First and foremost, I think the thing that was not mentioned, and I'm not sure I've said it enough about it, is that we're a PC developer who also searches into opportunities for other operating systems.You'll need to show the fact that you're a PC first kind of developer , company and publisher. Are you aware of the resentment from fans, then, when they say "Yeah it's a mobile thing, and that's not who you are."
I think in retrospect, we've taken a good review of ourselves post-BlizzCon, to look at the reactions of the fans. It's our job to get to the bottom of that reaction.We didn't make a great job of cheap WOW WOTLK Classic Gold telling our fan base that we're not abandoning PC to mobile and console. This message was not conveyed in the way I would imagine, if we were able to go back, that's what we'd be able to have done.
