NGOs are non-government and non-profit organisations that are affiliated with big corporates and philanthropists looking to help the less fortunate and underprivileged. Their drives and programs look to benefit the people, alleviate their suffering and provide them with better opportunities. Pune has many NGOs working in different fields, one of which is focused on environmental protection. The following section will introduce some of these NGOs working for the environment. The Sakal Relief Fund was founded in the year 1942 as a disaster relief program to help with the Bengal floods. Now the Fund has expanded its horizons and has become a globally known NGO for its work towards education, rehabilitation, environmental conservation, health care and disaster management.
