Antifreeze Measures For Wires And Cables

Because the wires and cables are overhead outdoors, the surface is easily covered with snow and ice. When the weight of the ice layer exceeds the carrying capacity of the wire and cable, it is easy to cause the cable to pull the transmission tower, or the wire pole, and the cable itself breaks. So, in order to avoid this situation, there are two ways to alleviate it:
1. First of all, pay attention to the selection of cables that can withstand the cold in the selection of materials. As ice and snow fall on the cables and in the gaps between the cables, the center of gravity of the cables tends to be biased toward the snowy part, which generates a force to rotate the cables, and the snowball will roll bigger and bigger, and eventually break. Therefore, cable rotation is the most important cause of icing. And if the cable is a hard conductor, when enough snow accumulates, it is not easy to twist, and the snow will automatically fall off the wire. At the same time, due to the different hardness and density of the cables, when the snow gradually solidifies into the ice, it will automatically break up to a certain extent.
2. Secondly, apply antifreeze paint on the wires and cables. The so-called antifreeze coating is actually a high-temperature thermal insulation coating or reflective thermal insulation coating. Aims to achieve the purpose of antifreeze through heat preservation. In addition, it generally has the functions of waterproof, anti-corrosion, moisture-proof, crack-proof, fire-proof, and insulation.
There are different types of antifreeze coatings on the market according to the research and development capabilities of various companies. Therefore, more comparisons and inspections are required when purchasing.
