EA Atari Madden 22 Franchise Updates Are Remaining afoot Despite Cancellation Rumors
Although rumors circulated through social media in the last week, EA will continue to announce two more updates to Madden 22's Franchise mode. The company reiterates what it describes as its commitment to Madden as a live service game.
In a brand new statement, EA Sports told IGN:
We are not averse to discuss rumors or speculation; however, we're committed to enhance Franchise as component of the ongoing Madden NFL 22 live service and beyond. The two updates are part of the Franchise updates we'll be releasing during Madden NFL 22. We'll have more information on the updates in the new year.
The announcement follows an article by Sports Gamers Online that EA has decided to stop any further franchise mode updates for Madden 22. The report cited IGN's video interview of Madden 22 director of production Seann Graddy. Graddy admitted that this year's program is "slightly smaller than the ones of years before" because the team is focused on a few key areas rather than trying to develop content on the scale of Superstar KO, a well-received arcade mode launched during Madden 20.
"I think the roadmap may be a bit less ambitious than what we have seen in the past because we are really focused on a handful of core areas that are the core of Madden 22 and also getting into Madden 23 in a big way," Graddy said at the time. "So I'm going to stick with what we've been saying for in the past couple of years: we're a live service and we'll continue to improve this game. However, we're definitely not going to be talking about a completely new mode."
The announcement attracted attention partly because franchise mode is a sore point with some Madden players. In fact, the roadmap initially came as a result of the #fixmaddenfranchise campaign that circulated Twitter in the middle of 2020. It was initiated following reports that EA was not planning any improvements to franchise mode in that year.
Since then, EA has released new commissioner tools, as well as other improvements as well as a major overhaul of its scouting system.
