Before you had your signature shoe, that was the Nike Air Bo Turf, in 1990, you were the headliner of your first Nike Air Trainer 3, which became the name of Madden 22 coins your shoe. What are your memories regarding the Air Trainer 3?
The way I'll present it in this way. In 1969 the year I was in the first grade , growing up in rural Alabama during the winter it was in between 30 and 40 degrees out. And I was required to attend school in bare feet. No shoes. I'm not writing this to gain empathy or to make a story. But I do remember my brother being just a few blocks away from our house. I'm in the front yard. The sister I was with stood a short distance from him, and our other sister was waiting at the stop for buses. When my sister at the bus stop noticed the bus top the hill a couple of block away she'd yell at my sister. She would yell to my brother. And my brother would yell at me. After that, I'd run out the door barefoot. At the point that my brother got to my first sister I'd be able to catch him earlier. The moment we got on the road I'm 15, 20 yards in front of my brother and sister. From going to school barefoot in the winter of 1969 to growing up and getting sneakers that were inspired by my mother ... I was fortunate.
After 30 odd odd years, some people still boast about the shoe and even collect the shoe. In the last few weeks I had a friend who I am, Anthony Anderson, the comedian, texted me saying, 'Hey Bo! I'm doing a performance about the sneakers I own. I'm unable find your Air Trainers. I'm in need of your shoes!' It just happened that I was wearing a pair within my work space. I said, "Hey I have a pair of these here. I can just send the pair to you.' It's moments like that where I sit in my chair and think, 'Wow!.'
It was during the NFL year, New York Giants running back Nike player Saquon Barkley was given his own rendition of Air Trainer 3. How was it to have him pay homage you with the sneakers?
I blessed him with the shoes. It was as if I was saying"Grasshopper! It's my moment to carry this torch. And you must do it in a professional manner.' I know that Saquon will be able to buy Mut 22 coins do a fine job of it. Saquon is a great kid. He reminds me a much of me. He is strong and has his head in the right direction. That's what impresses me most. The thing that impresses me is not his numbers. I love the way that he is able to carry himself.
