Mycotoxins are toxic metabolites produced by different types of fungus, belonging mainly to the Aspergillus, Penicillium and Fusarium genera. They commonly enter the food chain through contaminated food and feed crops, mainly cereals. The presence of mycotoxins in food and feed can lead to serious acute and chronic effects on the health of humans as well as animals. Mycotoxin analysis of food and feed is therefore necessary and often required by legislation.
