In the last month, using the hashtag #givetheirmoneyback. Gamers have claimed that a prominent member of the community called @StepBackRack (who has 3,600 Twitch followers and is known more commonly as "Rack") stole hundreds of  thousands of dollars from the Australian as well as New Zealand community, in what is believed to be an investment fraud. It's been reported that another gamer @Raangee, also participated in the fraud.

Tyceno, a YouTuber and streamer, was the first person to reveal the fraud. He convinced young gamers to give them hundreds of dollars with the promise of thousands of dollars. "I have solid evidence to believe @StepBackRack to be the person behind an enormous illegal pyramid scheme that occurred in the NBA 2K community where more than $200,000 was taken from vulnerable victims believing they could "flip" their money," Tyceno wrote.

It's not clear if Rack or Raangee were aware of the scam or whether their accounts were compromised. We've tried to reach their numerous times to unsuccessfully.

According to Tyceno and a number of alleged victims who spoke to us, "Rack" reached out to a few young gamers using the in-game voice chat feature. (NBA 2K's Terms of Service prohibits using the service for illicit purposes, commercial use or to bet money in conjunction with others. 2K the publisher of NBA 2K hasn't responded to repeated requests for information.)

Tyceno claimed Rack requested that gamers invest huge sums of money, promising unusually high returns that could be as high as 40%. "I lost $6000and was expected to get $11,000 on that due to the "interest" we were supposed to get paid," one alleged victim aged 21 shared with us. Rack published hundreds of thousands of dollars worth bets, and he wanted to boast about how much it cost.
