The results of the media survey show that I use media every two hours on average. I was quite consistent and reported the time, duration, the type of the media I used etc. Moreover, the information is rather detailed and all relevant columns are filled in. The survey shows that I have used media every day.
The completed survey allows me to draw a picture that explains the manner in which I use the media resources which are available for me. In general, I apply to media for different purposes. Sometimes I use it to find out about the things I am particularly interested in . Of course, in order to keep my knowledge and awareness about public affairs updated, I listen to the radio or watch TV to find out what is going on in the world and the community I live in. Additionally, I use CD players in order to listen to the interpretations of the Quran and to entertain myself during pauses.
As the tables show, the preferred media in my case is TV. In total, I spent almost 750 minutes watching news and other TV shows. . Perhaps, the TV is the most comfortable type of media because the only thing one has to do is to switch it on. Also, I can mix the activities with watching TV which, of course, wouldn’t be possible in case of reading, or listening to the Quran.
In my opinion, the mood has no relation to the use of media. I guess that it rather depends on the space, time and place where the person is. Additionally, the use of particular media depends on its easement as it was more convenient for me to listen to the radio while going somewhere. Of course, if I were in need for fresh news or had free time I would switch on my phone to check the feed on the Facebook or Twitter.
The survey shows that I am indeed multitasking as I managed to absorb news while eating my breakfast. In my opinion, nowadays many people try to combine physical activities with listening/watching something useful that they would be able to use in their studies or work. A lot of my friends and relatives listen to podcasts while running or doing laundry. Of course, I am not an exception and I try to combine the use of media with other activities.
While reflecting on the results of this survey, I was surprised to notice that I totally depend on digital media. Never before did I have the opportunity to consider this issue. The main reason why I do not use traditional media is the convenience the digital media brought. Another disadvantage is that the hardcopies are often more costly than their electronic prototypes, which are also more environmentally friendly. In general, I must say that most probably I am just following the world leading trends in regard to the use of media.
I also noted that I do not use my phone to overview the news. Mainly, I turn to use the phone when I update my Facebook status, view the Instagram pages or when I have no other thing to entertain myself with. It was quite surprising for me to discover the insignificance of the phone as I was convinced that the humanity nowadays prefer phones over PCs and laptops due to their convenience. As it turned out, this rule does not apply to everyone and, hopefully, there are many exceptions. Radio is my favorite means of media when I am walking or having any other physical activities. I, indeed, prefer it due to the music mix, announcements, news and other data that can entertain as well as give food for thought.
In total, this media report provided me with the opportunity to learn more about my habits in regard to the media resources and their use.
