EA is obviously trying to induce involvement with its free-to-play Madden NFL Mobile app once the most important game launches. Games in The Yard will operate based on a user's house rules, which allow for things like double moves, scoring bonuses for specific kinds of plays, and the like.
It is a bit reminiscent of what EA Sports' FIFA 20 tried with Volta Football, a street soccer/futsal mode with a story campaign along with a personalized superstar. Volta Football executed well against its goals but the mode did not have as much of an effect on a community otherwise engrossed by Football Ultimate Team along with the game's deep career bundle.
Madden NFL 20 final year introduced"Face of the Franchise," which gave a story preamble to the series' single-player career mode. However, the player customization isn't as deep as to the Yard is touting, also there was online part to it. In 2017, the very first chapter of Madden NFL 18's"Longshot" narrative featured backyard-style minigames, but they were confined to that manner only. Longshot ended following its sequel in Madden NFL 19.
