Love and hate. Dogs and fleas. ADHD and lack Brain C-13 Review of focus: they all seem to form teams, even when the teams aren't very pretty. But allowing your child to suffer from lack of focus without attempting some form of intervention places him at a disadvantage for years to come, and possibly for his entire future.

There are many ways of treating ADHD and focus problems. A common one, unfortunately, is to bombard the child with an onslaught of chemicals by using aggressively targeted prescription medication. The results can be mixed, and the long term negative effects of this treatment have yet to be fully evaluated. No matter how frustrating ADHD and lack of focus may be, looking into gentler treatments to begin with could save you and your child many regrets.

Begin by considering a good behavioral therapist. Your school or county may be able to provide one, or one may be available through private practice. A behavioral therapist will teach your child focus techniques, methods of self-control and self-monitoring, and transition methods for moving from one activity to the next.
