Let's take a good look at the Food Pyramid. For decades, the government has insisted that the foundation of a "balanced diet" should be formed by carbohydrates -- breads, crackers, cereals, rice, pasta, mashed potatoes, you get the idea. Fat was suggested to be consumed in very little amounts only, and people obligingly followed. If people are taking in less fat, then how come obesity levels are on an uncontrollable rise?

The fact is that carbohydrates make people fat -- not the fat in meat. Carbohydrates are processed by the body dangerously quickly -- like sugar. What's worse, the government issued a newer, more confusing Food Pyramid in 2005. Carbohydrates still formed the foundation of a supposed balanced diet, but came with the suggestion: "Make half your grains whole."
