"Without layeringwe just wouldn't have managed to accommodate anywhere close to the number of players we have on our own wow classic gold servers," Hazzikostas clarified. "And with some of the pure attrition that we have seen, we would have had a number of servers right now that are underpopulated. Instead we'd servers that were, because of layering, effectively massively overpopulated even with login queues, throughout the first two or three weeks, which have stabilized at large, healthy populations that can endure for the years and years to come."
But layering was not likely to be permanent. Hazzikostas explains that among the features coming in stage 2 is world supervisors like Kazzak and Azuregos. These bosses' point is that there should be only one version of these up at a time. Layering would make it simpler to farm these enemies to get loot. "That's kind of a fundamental dynamic of how that needs to play out in the outside world."
The fantastic news is that the procedure for retiring layering is just"a matter of weeks at this point," Hazzikostas said. Community supervisor Kaivax posted about the Classic forums saying that servers were down to two layers and 13 were permanently locked in at just 1 layer. That's advantage is that because everybody was spread out across layers capital associations, which in launch felt like ghost towns feel like facilities that are social that are bustling.
After every waiter is down to one layer, stage 2 will probably be a lot closer to launching. That's excellent news for everyone: Phase 2 adds powerful new universe bosses to fight, in addition to the Dire Maul dungeon (that will spark a bloody brand new chapter in Classic's silliest ongoing argument) for veterans.
