Forgiving Self: While we parents pray that any Individualogist Review slips are minor some will occur. When they do and the teen confesses what's been done... and been forgiven... the teen needs to forgive him or herself. The past can't be changed but it shouldn't be a huge rock carried into the future. This is the reason Jesus died for our sins; so we could be forgiven. As parents we will have to forgive ourselves as well. We may or may not be able to prevent our children from making mistakes that will alter their lives. Hindsight is 20/20. It's easy to carry the same rock we need to discourage our children from carrying.
Ho'oponopono comes from the Hawaiian spirituality and literally means "to set right." We all carry the programming from our parents and relatives. But if you think about it, these behavioral and mental patterns are passed from one generation to another. This way we somewhat have the mentality and demeanor (as well as emotional baggage and mental blockages) from our ancestors. I have already talked about some families being more successful than others. It is because parents teach their children what they have been taught by their own parents. And this goes on and on. It is no wonder that folklore around the world talks about generational curses or ancestral karma. According to the Hawaiian spirituality, we carry these blockages and mindsets from our ancestors for generations until they are cleared. Let's say you want to break the cycle. How do you do it?
Religions and spiritual movements all over the world and from ancient times to the present day speak of the same things - love and forgiveness. These deep emotional processes have not been preached for so long in vain. Ho'oponopono does not make an exception. Hawaiian spiritual leaders (called Kahunas) state that only by taking full responsibility for every aspect of our lives, then we will be able to change them.(Remember that there is nothing outside of ourselves!) By expressing love, gratitude and forgiveness, we restore the balance that has been broken by us or our ancestors.
