This study was not huge, only 300 children Morning Fat Melter Review  ranging in age from 5 to 12 were studied by researchers at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia. The kids consisted of three groups. A family history of alcoholism...meaning someone from a sibling to a grandparent was an alcoholic...was present in approximately half the children. About one quarter of the kids themselves had symptoms consistent with depression.

The researchers provided all the children with five samples of water sweetened with sugar. The samples varied in sweetness including a high of 24%...roughly the equivalent of 14 teaspoons of sugar in 8 ounces of water. It turns out those children who presented depressive symptoms and had a family history of alcoholism preferred the taste of this super sweet water-more sugar than one would find in a typical soda. The other kids still liked sweet water, but their preference was for a solution at only 18% sucrose. What does this all mean, and why is it important for those of us who have been challenged at losing weight?

First, it is important to note having this predilection for sweet tastes does not mean these kids will become alcoholics themselves...more studies will need to be conducted to determine if there is a cause and effect relationship there. Many questions come out of this study: is the preference for sweet tastes something we are born with or is it developed very early on; are there hormonal imbalances present in these kids...low levels of serotonin or an inability to process serotonin is commonly associated with depression.
