Nowadays most people spend a lot of time surfing the web. You can find all the information that you need, you can chat with friends, you can share messages and photos and so on. You probably never really think about how much data about your surfing habits are collected without you knowing it. Your Internet provider logs all of your activities on the web. Facebook collects data about the pages that you like and websites that you visit. Google does the same. Other websites also keep track of your surfing behavior through means of cookies. So it sure is time to ask yourself how you can remain anonymous on the Internet. In this article you will read how you can hide on the web with a VPN service.

Use a proxy server
You can not surf on the web without an Internet address, the so-called IP address. Based on the IP address, your location can be determined. A reasonably safe way to prevent a website from finding out your IP, is by making use of a proxy server. This is like a station in between your own PC and the websites that you want to visit. The visited website will only see the IP address of the proxy server, not your IP address. The data that you send through the connection, is however not secured.

Anonymously on the web with TOR
You can install TOR fully for free on your PC. By using TOR you are surfing the Internet anonymously. If you want to visit a certain website with TOR, TOR will establish the connection through many different servers spread all across the world. The website that you visit, will only see the IP address of the last server in the list. It is virtually impossible to trace back your own IP address. The disadvantage is however that the connection can be quite slow.

The best method: using a VPN service
VPN stands for virtual private network. With a VPN connection, your data is encrypted before being sent to the Internet. Even if a hacker would manage to intercept your data, he will not be able to do anything with it. You can establish a VPN connection between your PC (or smartphone, tablet, …) and a VPN server anywhere in the world. From that VPN server you can reach the desired website. This website will only see the IP address of the VPN server, not your own IP address. Your identity and location remain unknown. Moreover, the data that you send is secured by means of encryption.
