The highlight of the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA) is the Hall of Fame vote.

The Rookie of the Year, the Coach Award, the Cy Young Award, and the MVP are also selected by the American Baseball Writers Association, but it is true that the weight is small compared to the U.S. Hall of Fame.

To qualify to vote, journalists must follow and cover home and away games for at least 10 years. In 2023, 389 people were eligible to vote, and in 2022, 394 people were eligible to vote.

There are a total of 26 candidates this year. There are 12 candidates who have been retired for five years or are eligible for the first year, and 14 existing candidates.

Currently, the strong candidate to become a prestigious member in his first year of eligibility is former Texas Rangers Adrian Beltre (44). He hit .286-3166, -477 home runs, -1707 RBIs, -121 stolen bases, -1524 runs, and an OPS of 0.819 over 21 years. Most hitters who hit 3,000 have entered their first year of eligibility.

In 2014, former Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio reached 3,000 hits, but was denied membership in his first year, and became a member the following year in 2015. A player must receive more than 75 percent of the press corps' vote to receive the highest honor.

Joe Mauer, a three-time batting champion as a former Minnesota Twins catcher, is also predicting the possibility. Mauer has a career batting average of 0.306 with 143 homers, 923 RBIs, 1,018 points, and an OPS of 0.827, as a catcher, first baseman, and designated hitter for 15 years. He was a six-time All-Star and won the American League MVP award in 2009. He has won five Silver Slugger Awards.

The three-time catcher's honor is appealing very strongly, although he falls well short of the iconic record of 3,000 hits, 500 homers, and 1,000 RBIs. Journalists have already voted.
